Let the Griesel Begin!

This is an account of the journey away from one conventional habit to a way of tooling through our day to day adventure with the smell of french fries drifting through the air. Griesel Cooperative is really the result of economics, creativity, care for the environment, and some Schwitterized momentum.

We hope that the information is helpful and that other people would benefit from our experience.

Collecting grease from local establishments in January has its challenges! I am here to say, though, that it is entirely possible and in some ways easier. Rather than our standard protocol of pumping the grease to an on-board tank on the Valdez (the official Greisel collection vehicle a.k.a. my pick-up), we are using a barrel exchange system. With each collection I bring a clean, dry barrel to the establishment and exchange it for a full one. This works well as I then bring the full barrel to our processing facility (my garage) and warm it up prior to processing. General the grease is pretty solid when I pick it up, but is warm enough to process in a few hours! Then the fun begins! (More on that later!)
